De-partitioningI wanted to combine at least one of
my server’s (a Cube running Mac OS X) partitions with the startup
partition, since that volume was getting full (making it difficult to upgrade).
I had investigated VolumeWorks, Drive Genius, and iPartition, but to modify the
startup partition required a bootable
CD.
While at Macworld Expo, I found DiskStudio, which also can handle the job. The show special for the CD was $40 (tax included), which turned out to be cheaper than the other three I had researched. Today I made sure the server was backed up, then ran DiskStudio. It wasn’t quite as clear or painless I would have liked, but I did end up deleting two smaller partitions, and they were added to the startup partition like I wanted. I’ll probably never need to use it again, but it worked as advertised, and saved lots of time compared to the alternative of reformatting the drive and copying stuff back onto it.
